# Welcome to My Piece of the Internet

Hello, my name is Michael Ball! I’m a current UC Berkeley undergraduate and I’m addicted to photography and all sorts of technology.

Phew! Now that I’ve gotten that out of the way:

Being a college student is great! I’m always busy and learning new things and meeting super awesome people, both friends and professors. However, when not studying lambda functions, reading a calculus book, or trying to find work, I spend my time being a technologist and a photographer.

Technologist? I love technology and I’m a nerd! Which means that I’m (not surprisingly, I suppose) very interested in computers, especially in the ways that technology can work with new forms of media, it’s social implications and how we can use these amazing new tools to improve education. As college student at one of the leading computer science institutions, I get to play with some pretty crazy technology! In my free time I love to play around with anything I can get my hands on, and I’ve worked on my own iPhone app. Quad Solver is a simple and useful application which will solve all your quadratic equation related needs (should you have any)! It’s something I put together just for fun, and it’s free in the App Store.

I’m also an artist, and enjoy exploring the Bay Area, my home town, or finding unique and unknown places when I travel. Those become my main photographic subjects and I’m always working on improving my photographic technique and share the results on my website. Photography is fun, really fun! To me it provides an excellent creative exercise, but also has an amazing technical side as well. Plus, with the way digital photography works there’s so many new possibilities for combing art with new technology, which is a topic I’m actively studying in my free time.

There’s really so much more than that which I’m interested in and work on. I’m also an Apple Certified Professional for Aperture 3 and Apple Certified Associate for Mac OS X Lion 10.7 Mac Integration. If any of this sounds cool feel free to follow me at any of the links below or view my resume.

So what’s here?

The main purpose of this site is for me to share my work, including what’s going on at school. The Photography page will be evolving quite a bit as I keep uploading more photos and organizing galleries of shots that I’ve taken a long time ago. My iPhone Apps page isn’t likely to change too much, but do give it a look, and maybe click the download link!

So, there’s a bit about me, and this site and if you have any questions or comments, feel free to contact me via any of links to the right, or by clicking here.

I’m generally not one to brag and usually feel that tests and the like are pretty overrated. However, I am also proud of the effort I put into my current Apple Certifications. Currently I am an Apple Certified Associate for Mac Integration for OS X Lion (10.7) and an Aperture Certified Professional for Aperture 3. You can view info here. Otherwise, much of my photography is either self-taught or from the hours I’ve spent listening to podcasts or online blogs. Of course, I’ve also graduated from high school and am currently a college student, so I’m sure that counts for a little something!

I truly believe that people should be able to have more access to information freely and that we shouldn’t go around suing each other so often. That said, I do need to protect the work that I do, and that sometimes will include watermarking my images. Please, please, please do not remove the watermarks! If you need one of those images then just ask and I’ll work something out. Otherwise, feel free to share my stuff (without removing the watermark). The official license for my work right now is Creative Commons Attribution, Non-commercial, No Derivatives 3.0 license. This technically does not permit derivative works, however, if you want to make an edit or do something, just let me know and I can change it for a certain piece. I’m flexible about that part, but I do have my creative choices. Thanks! :)
